Blackberry as Dial-up Modem (Internet Tethering)

In order to use Blackberry as the modem for your laptop/desktop to go online, below are he steps:

1. Make sure Blackberry Desktop Manager is running al the time

2. Open “Phone and Modem” in the Control Panel

3. Go to Modem‘s tab

4. You show be able to see one or a list of Standard Modem.  Select the modem one by one and then click on Properties. Click on the Diagnostics tab and Query Modem. You should see something with “Blackberry” in the response windows. This is the Blackberry modem you can use. Else, repeat the same task for oher modem list till you find it.

5. Now click on the Advance tab of the modem and enter below extract initialization command: (You need administrative right in order to perform this steps)

Carrier Initialization Command
Maxis +CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”unet”
Celcom +cgdcont=1,”ip”,”celcom3g”

6. Now create a new network connection under Control Pane -> Network Connecitons

7. Click on Create New Connection from the left pane and follow the wizard

8. Select “Connect to the Internet” then Next

9. Select “Set up my connection manually” then Next

10. Select “Connect using a dial-u modem” then Net

11. Check only the standad modem that you found in step 4 above (if prompted)

12. Simply give the connection a name such as “BlackBerry Dial-up), then Next

13. on the next scren, enter the following information depending to your carrier:

Maxis Celcom
Dial up number *99# *99# or *99***1#
Username maxis <blank>
Password wap <blank>

14. Clear all the checkboxes (“Use…when anyone…” and “Make this the default…”) and the click Finish

Disable IP Header Compression

Make sure TCP/IP Properties (Advanced) “Use IP Header Compression” checkbox is NOT checked. To verify this, do these steps:

1. Start Menu->Network Connections->”BlackBerry Modem”
2. Click Properties Button
3. Click Networking Tab
4. Select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)”
5. Click Properties Button
6. Click Advanced… Button
7. Disable “Use IP header compression” checkbox
8. Click all OK buttons to close all dialogs
Also make sure you clear all these checkboxes, if you see any of these checked:
Turn off “Enable Hardware Flow Control”
Turn off “Enable Modem Error Control”
Turn off “Enable Modem Compression”
